Michel-Ange Garini, JTL, Voges, c. 1910 (FR014) - SOLD

Michel-Ange Garini, JTL, Voges, c. 1910 (FR014)

This beautiful cello was made c. 1910 for the Jerome Thibouville-Lamy (JTL) factory of Mirecourt, France. The JTL Company was a large producer of instruments and had a number of labels they used to market their products.

Michel-Ange Garini instruments were manufactured in a smaller workshop in Voges, but distributed by the JTL Company. Garini’s are of good quality and known for having very good sound. They are somewhat instantly recognizable by their attractive deep red wine color and highly flamed finish, an effect achieved by skillfully applying spirit varnish over slab cut wood.

This particular cello was owned by a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and has been recently refurbished by a top UK luthier. It is in good condition considering its age, with only some minor rib crack repairs. It is a stunningly beautiful instrument.

The tone is clear, free and it sings sweetly. The cello is set up well, being very responsive and easy to play.

The length of back is 764mm. High resolution photos can be sent on request.
