This is a very fine handmade cello from a highly skilled Italian contemporary maker; Dario Aguzzi. It is made to the specification of a Guarneri instrument and varnished & antiqued to replicate the work of the Italian Master.
Dario Aguzzi was born in Milan in 1955. He became interested in drawing and portrait painting and studied art history before taking up violin-making in the early 1980’s. He is a gifted portrait artist who has developed a unique style fusing Renaissance master portraiture with his own contemporary outlook. His painting work has been exhibited at many fine galleries.
Dario brings his love of art to his lutherie work. Whilst conscious of the goal of optimum sound quality, he recognizes that a hand-made string instrument is indeed a work or art. He produces lovely instruments with meticulous workmanship and attention to detail. He also creates copies of ancient instruments with original decorative painting.
The front of this instrument is made from a lovely (& rare) ‘bear claw’ figured piece of spruce, the back, ribs and scroll from highly flamed maple. The cello is in excellent condition and is set up professionally with with Larsen A,D & G strings and Spirocore Tunsgten for the C.
The sound is lovely; clear, resonant, powerful - professional level.
The cello is accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by the maker.
The length of back is 755mm. High resolution photos available on request.
