This terrific instrument was made by Lionel Karl Hepplewhite in Malvern, Worcestershire in 1984. Hepplewhite is recognized as one of England’s best post WW2 makers.  His instruments were bench made using the finest materials and only available by custom ordering, usually many months in advance of delivery.

Hepplewhite was an accomplished violinist in his day, his most famous performance perhaps being his role in the 1992 film Howard’s End, starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, where he played lead violin in the orchestra.

Hepplewhite instruments have been used by professional musicians in some of the top orchestras in the UK including the Opera North, Northern Philharmonic and Welsh National Opera Orchestras.

This cello exhibits immaculate craftsmanship and is in outstanding condition. It is labeled: Violoncello made by Lionel Karl Hepplewhite, Malvern 1984 CF. No. 71 and also branded internally. It has a carbon fiber endpin and new strings have been fitted. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and insurance valuation from the maker written in 2014.

Hepplewhite instruments are noticeably light in weight leading to a healthy resonance and producing a sweet, creamy, even sound particularly pleasing the in the high register.
