German Markneukirchen Cello c. 1890 (GE049) - SOLD
German Cello c. 1890 (GE049) - SOLD
A very attractive old German cello in excellent condition and with no major repairs.
The instrument is unlabeled and was probably made in the Markneukirchen region of Germany at the end of the 19th century. Markneukirchen was the largest string instrument producing area in Germany at the time, supplying instruments of various levels of quality from basic student to master.
This instrument is in unusually good condition for its age, it is well made and the only real repair is a neck reset. Most cellos of this vintage will at some point require a reset to correct the neck angle for a modern playing set up. The reset on this cello has been done particularly well with clean workmanship with an ebony crown fitted over the button. A local luthier has spend much time detailing the varnish and the result is a really beautiful instrument.
The cello is fitted with premium Larsen strings and the resultant sound is warm, responsive and even. It is very easy to play.
The length of back is 750 mm, high resolution photos available on request.
