EH Roth V11-R Cello, Erlangen, Germany 1975 (GE054) - $9995 Canadian

E.H. Roth is one of the most recognized and respected names in German violin-making.

The company was founded by Ernst Heinrich Roth and his cousin Gustav August Ficker in Markneukirchen in 1902. Ernst had learned traditional German violin-making from his father, but went onto to further his studies in Austria, Hungary, Russia & France. He became a highly skilled craftsman; one of Germany’s finest makers and his master instruments (especially those from the 1920’s & 30’s) are very highly prized. The Roth workshop was tremendously successful and had a reputation for quality, each instrument going through a rigorous inspection process and numbered before being released for sale.

Following WW2, soviet control over East Germany led to the family fortune being expropriated and like many violin-makers at the time, the Roth family moved to the Erlangen/Bubenreuth area in West Germany to rebuild their business, this is where this instrument was made in 1975.

It is a V11-R model, a copy of a 1724 Stradivari and one of the firm’s higher grades. It carries an original label and is branded on the inside back and neck block and with the serial number B4 1842. Peculiar to the V11-R model is an ebony crown carved around the button on the back.

This instrument is in excellent condition. It has had a new bridge and soundpost cut, the fingerboard dressed and is fitted with a new carbon fiber endpin, Wittner tailpiece and premium Thomastik Versum strings. The cello is very easy to play.

Roth instruments seldom disappoint and this is no exception, the sound is enjoyably projecting and vibrant.

The length of back is 755mm. High resolution photos available on request.
