A Finnish Cello Bow by Risto Vainio. (BF01) $2,500 CDN

Lovely silver mounted, pernambuco cello bow made in Helsinki, Finland by Risto Vainio. The bow was made sometime in the 1980’s and weighs 75g.

Risto Vainio, an accomplished cellist and professional musician studied at the prestigious violin-making school in Mittenwald, Germany from 1957 to 1958. He first opened a workshop with his wife in Helsinki in 1968. During his career, he has made about 100 instruments (violin, viola, cello) but focused on bow construction and repair for the latter part of his career. His sons still operate the workshop today.

A highly skilled bow-maker, Risto’s bows have medaled at international competitions and are much sought after by top European musicians.
