7/8th Cello by Jan Szlachtowski, Nowy Targ, Poland 2013 (PO010) - $15,000 Canadian

This is a terrific bench-made cello in the slightly smaller 7/8th size by Polish master maker Jan Szlachtowski. Szlachtowski studied at the much respected violin making school in Nowy Targ and gained experience at William H. Lee’s workshop in Chicago before returning home to Poland to set up his own workshop.

Szlachtowski specializes in cellos and he makes very fine instruments that are much prized by advancing students and professionals worldwide. His workmanship and technical understanding of sound production leads him to consistently turn out instruments of the highest quality with outstanding sound.

Cellos can sometimes be frustrating in that they can offer great sound in the lower or higher register, but not both. This instrument produces wonderful sound in both registers; it has a lovely deep growly bass and sweet appealing treble with lots of power and projection including in the very high notes. It would quite easily carry a student through university level studies. It doesn’t sound like a slightly smaller cello.

This instrument is a Stradivari model made in 2013 and is in excellent condition with no repairs. It is set up very well with premium Spirocore Tungsten and Larsen strings.

The length of back is 718mm. High resolution photos available on request.
