Otto Heine, West Germany 1982 (GE057) - $8,495 Canadian

This is a terrific sounding German cello in great condition that would suit an advancing student looking for a quality European instrument.

We couldn’t find out much about the maker unfortunately, the label appears on a number of instruments imported into North America in the late 1970’s and 1980’s; this could indicate that ‘Otto Heine’ is a trade name used by an importer rather than an actual maker. If this is the case, then the cello was likely made in the Bubenreuth area of Germany, where a number of quality makers have workshops.

This aside, it is a great sounding instrument with each note displaying even, warm character. The cellist in the recording described it as ‘up there with professional cellos’. Also ‘not boring’ - it punches well above its price point!

It is fitted with Larsen Solo and Spirocore Tungsten strings (the most common choice of professionals), a Wittner tailpiece and carbon fiber endpin and is in great condition showing only a bit of wear commensurate with age.

The length of back is 750mm, high resolution photos available on request.
