Marknuekirchen Saxon Cello, Germany c.1890 (GE056) - $9,995 Canadian

Marknuekirchen Saxon Cello, Germany c.1890 (GE056) - $9,995 Canadian
This cello was made in the Saxony region of Germany towards the end of the 19th century. This area, centered around the small towns of Markneukirchen and Klingenthal, was one of Europe’s most important violin-making regions with established guilds, a tradition of apprenticeships and a division of labor among specialist craftspeople.
This instrument is in good condition for its age having undergone a full restoration in 2023. The restoration included replacing the bass-bar, sound post and bridge, dressing the fingerboard and repairing some cracks, none of which are in important sound affecting areas. An earlier neck repair involved installing a shim under the fingerboard.
The ebony pegs are tipped with gold, the varnish is a gloriously aged auburn in color, a carbon fiber endpin and Thomastik Rondo strings have been fitted; the instrument is in top playing condition.
The cello is resonant with ample power and the sound is warm and inviting. It is set up well and enjoyably very easy to play.
The length of back is 755 mm, high resolution photos available on request.
