This lovely instrument was made in the early years of the 20th C. for the Collin-Mezin workshop by the Jerome-Thibouville Lamy Company of Mirecourt, France.

Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin was born at Mirecourt in 1841 and became one of France’s leading makers, winning gold and silver medals at multiple exhibitions and being appointed Officier de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts. He moved to Paris in 1886 and established his own very successful workshop, eventually passing the business on to his son Charles Collin-Mezin Jr.

Business was such that demand outstripped supply and the shop commissioned instruments from other makers for sale under their own brands. They had a good reputation to sustain and only accepted quality work. The Giacommelli instruments were made by the Jerome-Thibouville Lamy Company, a much larger producer.

The label bears the initials CM (for Collin-Mezin). The Giacomelli instruments are distinctive in the addition of antiquing in certain areas following the style of Caussin.

The cello is in excellent condition for its age, there are only two small saddle cracks which have been repaired to a very high standard.

It is fitted with Spirocore Tungsten bass strings and Larsen Soloist treble strings. It is a professional level instrument with rich versatile sound. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the leading authority in French string instruments, Jean-Jacques Rampal.

The length of back is 756mm, high resolution photos available on request.
