Fine Cello Demonstration & Educational Workshop, Victoria, BC June 24th

Join us on Saturday afternoon 24th June 2023 at the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM), 900 Johnson St., for a Fine Cello Demonstration and Educational Workshop co-presented by the VCM Strings Department and Talbot Antique Cellos (tacellos.com). The event runs from 1-5pm in the Wood Hall.

David Talbot from Talbot Antique Cellos will be presenting a number of fine antique and contemporary cellos and cello bows. There will be cellos from England, France, Germany, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Canada including.

·         John Juzek ‘Master Art’, Prague, Czechoslovakia 1931

·         Hugh Sutherland ‘Bear Claw’, Victoria, Canada 1980

Cello bows presented include some from (now retired) local master archetier; Reid Hudson.

Attendees wanting to try the instruments & bows are encouraged to contact Talbot Antique Cellos prior to the event at tacellos@shaw.ca or 250 818 8487 to reserve a time slot. ‘Break out’ rooms will be available.

VCM faculty & retired Victoria Symphony cellist Martin Bonham will be on hand to answer questions & offer advice about ‘choosing the right cello & bow for me’.

Seasoned local luthier Travis Short of Swinglow Strings will be available to talk about ‘good practices for maintaining, what to look for & mistakes to avoid when choosing a cello’.

Cellists of all skill levels are welcome to attend. There is no charge for the event.
