As an enthusiastic amateur cellist, lover of history and all things old, it was natural for me to become interested in antique instruments.
When I handle a piece for the first time a number of questions come to mind - what materials & quality were used, what is the quality of workmanship, where was it made and how is the size, condition and set-up? I then start thinking about who actually made it, how old the tone woods must be, who initially sold it and perhaps who owned it through the generations? Finally and most importantly; how does it sound and can we do something to optimize it?

At Talbot Antique Cellos & Bows we import, restore and professionally setup fine old instruments from Europe. All instruments are thoroughly checked out by seasoned luthiers before being offered for sale. We make them available to cellists and collectors alike at prices we feel to be reasonable - making money is not the principal motivation for us, handling old cellos is. We also offer a selection of fine more contemporary cellos and cello bows; both antique and contemporary.
